Dr. Didem Unat received a new EuroHPC grant - Towards Extreme Scale Technologies and Applications. The action has a total budget of 2.6M Euros with 6 partners in Europe, where Dr. Unat will be leading the Consortium which includes Simula Research Laboratory (Norway), GraphCore Inc. (Norway), INESC-ID (Portugal), LMU Munich (Germany) and Sabanci University (Turkey). The SparCity project will deliver a coherent collection of innovative algorithms and tools for sparse computations on emerging hardware platforms, with the application focus on computational science, deep learning and data analytics. Dr. Unat will collaborate with Dr. Güney from Koç in her autonomous driving work as a motivating application.

Prof. Öznur Özkasap has received The Informatics Association of Turkey 2019 Prof. Aydın Köksal Computer Engineering Science Award. The Informatics Association of Turkey (Türkiye Bilişim Derneği - TBD) founder Prof. Dr. Aydın Köksal has contributed 2500 scientific terms, such as “Bilgisayar: Computer”, “Bilişim: Informatics” and “Yazılım: Software”, to Turkish language. TBD was established in 1971 with a great vision of the future by a group of half-academics who can be referred to as professionals in informatics today, and it has become a pioneering movement of civil community that aims to disseminate the culture of informatics with its members from all layers of the society. TBD, with over 12,000 members, 7 main branches, 13 offices in provinces and TBD-Young organizations at universities, contributes significantly to the development of informatics sector.
